The ANSI standard for interindustry electronic interchange of business transactions.
XML
XML is basically a kind of metalanguage allowing businesses to talk to each other. It allows companies to know what they are dealing with, in purchase orders or whatever. It enables web authors and designers to create their own customized tags to provide functionality not available with HTML. For example, XML supports links that point to multiple documents, as opposed to HTML links, which can reference just one destination each.
